How to check the validity of your Slovenia vignette

Last checked: 3 November 2026

The Slovenia vignette is electronic and is checked by licence plate, so there is nothing on the windscreen to look at. To be sure, you can check its validity by licence plate and country, for example free of charge at veljavnostvinjete.si. It only takes a moment and is the simplest way to avoid a €300 fine for driving without a valid vignette.

When checking makes sense

  • Right after purchase: to make sure the vignette was created for the correct plate and country.
  • Before departure: especially if you bought the vignette weeks ago or someone else bought it for you.
  • With an annual vignette: annual vignettes that were valid on 1 December 2025 had their validity extended by four months by law, so the end date may differ from what you expect.
  • With a rented or borrowed car: to find out whether a vignette is already registered for the vehicle.
  • If no confirmation arrived: the vignette is created only after the payment has been confirmed.

What to compare on the confirmation

After a purchase, a purchase confirmation is sent to the e-mail address provided. Compare these details with your vehicle:

DetailWhat to check
licence plateexactly as on the vehicle, without spaces or hyphens
country of registrationthe country that issued the plate, not your country of residence
category1, 2A or 2B according to the vehicle
type7 days, monthly, half-year or annual
start and end of validitycovers all the days on which you drive on Slovenian motorways

How to check validity

  1. Open veljavnostvinjete.si.
  2. Enter the licence plate without spaces or hyphens and select the country of registration.
  3. Compare the result with the dates of your journey.

If the check shows a valid vignette with the correct dates, you are ready to go. Keep the purchase confirmation until the end of the trip anyway.

If the vignette cannot be found

  • Typo in the plate or wrong country: before validity starts, the plate, country and start day can still be corrected. Details in the guide Entering the licence plate correctly.
  • Start day in the future: a vignette bought in advance is valid only from the chosen start day.
  • Payment not completed: if you have no confirmation, the vignette was most likely not created. Check your payment and, if necessary, buy the vignette again.
  • Wrong category: the category cannot be changed; within 30 days you can apply to DARS for a pro-rata refund, minus a fee of €6.

Do not drive onto a Slovenian motorway until you have a valid vignette. What a check on the road looks like is explained in the guide Fine for no vignette in Slovenia.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to print the confirmation?

No. The vignette is electronic and is checked by licence plate. It is still advisable to keep the confirmation.

Why is my vignette not shown yet?

Most often because the start day is still in the future, the plate or country was entered differently, or the payment was not completed.

Do you still need a vignette? You can order the Slovenia vignette online with us: choose the category, validity and start day, enter the licence plate and pay. You will receive the confirmation by e-mail.
