Slovenia vignette validity: how long each type lasts

The 7-day Slovenia vignette is valid for seven consecutive days starting on the day you choose. The monthly vignette is valid until the same calendar day of the following month, and the annual vignette for 12 months. You can buy the vignette up to 30 days in advance, counting the day of purchase. Planning the start day carefully saves you from the most common mistake: a trip that is one day too long for the vignette.
Validity of each type

Examples for the monthly vignette: starting on 15 March, it is valid until 15 April. Starting on 31 January, it is valid until the last day of February, because 31 February does not exist. The annual vignette is not tied to the calendar year: it runs for 12 months from the start day you choose.
The 8-day trap
A typical holiday from Saturday to Saturday lasts eight days. A 7-day vignette starting on Saturday covers Saturday to Friday, so it no longer covers the return journey on the following Saturday. The German automobile club ADAC also points this out. In this case you have two options:
- buy two 7-day vignettes, the second one starting on the day of your return journey;
- buy a monthly vignette, which for category 2A costs €32.00, the same as two weekly vignettes.
The same applies if you drive through Slovenia on the way there and back and more than seven days pass in between. If you only use Slovenian motorways on the outward and return days, two separate 7-day vignettes, each starting on the day of travel, are an alternative to the monthly vignette.
Buying in advance
You can choose the start day up to 30 days ahead, including the day of purchase. A vignette bought in advance is not valid before the chosen start day, so make sure the start day matches the day on which you first enter a Slovenian motorway. The vignette is created only after the payment has been confirmed; until then you do not have a valid vignette.
Until the validity starts, the purchase can be cancelled, and the licence plate, country and start day can be corrected. The category and the type of vignette cannot be changed. More in the guide Entering the licence plate correctly.
Extended annual vignettes from 2025
Annual vignettes that were valid on 1 December 2025 had their validity extended by four months by law. If you have an annual vignette of this kind, its end date is therefore later than 12 months after the start. If you are unsure, check the validity of your vignette before your trip.
