Slovenia vignette 2026: what it costs in each category

Last checked: 3 November 2026

The Slovenia vignette for an ordinary car (category 2A) costs €16.00 for 7 days, €32.00 for a month and €117.50 for a year. Motorcycles (category 1) pay €8.00 for a week, and higher vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (category 2B) pay €32.00 for a week. All prices include VAT. The vignette in Slovenia is electronic (e-vinjeta): it is linked to the licence plate and the country of registration, and nothing is stuck on the windscreen.

Slovenia vignette prices in 2026

The vignette is available in three categories. Not every validity type exists in every category: motorcycles have a half-year vignette but no monthly one, while cars and higher vehicles have a monthly vignette but no half-year one.

Category7 daysMonthlyHalf-yearAnnual
1 – motorcycles€8.00–€32.00€58.70
2A – cars up to 3.5 t, height over the front axle below 1.3 m€16.00€32.00–€117.50
2B – vehicles up to 3.5 t, height over the front axle 1.3 m or more€32.00€64.10–€235.00

The price of a 2B vignette is exactly or almost exactly double the 2A price. It therefore pays to check the category carefully before buying. Ordinary passenger cars fall into 2A. How the category is determined, and how motorhomes are treated, is explained in the guide Which Slovenia vignette category do I need?

Which type pays off

  • 7-day vignette: the usual choice for transit and short holidays. It is the most popular type among tourists travelling through Slovenia to the south.
  • Monthly vignette: for 2A it costs the same as two weekly vignettes. It is worth it for stays longer than one week, or if you drive there and back with more than seven days in between.
  • Annual vignette: for 2A it costs about as much as seven weekly vignettes. It suits drivers who travel through Slovenia several times a year.

Note that a trip lasting eight days, for example from Saturday to Saturday, no longer fits into one 7-day vignette. Exact validity rules are in the guide Slovenia vignette validity.

Who needs a vignette

A vignette is required for motorcycles and for vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes on Slovenian motorways and expressways. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes do not use a vignette; they pay a distance-based toll via the DarsGo system and need a DarsGo device. A trailer does not need its own vignette.

What the price does not cover

  • Karavanke tunnel: the tunnel on the Austrian border has a separate toll (€9.00 since 1 January 2026), which the vignette does not cover. See Karavanke tunnel toll.
  • Roads in other countries: the vignette is valid only in Slovenia. Austrian, Italian, Hungarian or Croatian tolls are paid separately.

Since 1 January 2026 vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes temporarily do not need a vignette on the H5 and H6 expressways between Škofije, Koper and Izola.

Who sets the price

The price is set by the Slovenian government under the Slovenian Toll Act (ZCestn-1); the electronic vignette system is operated by the motorway company DARS (Družba za avtoceste v Republiki Sloveniji). Under the Act, tolls are adjusted to the consumer price index in March. Before a longer trip, it is therefore advisable to check the current price.
